There is some confusion regarding what a PED is and what kind of PEDs exist. Some people think that PED = Steroids, while others think PED is an umbrella term for just SARMs and AAS.

PED stands for Performance Enhancing Drug, so any drug that can enhance one's performance is a PED.

In this post, we'll go over the 5 MAIN TYPES OF PEDs and hopefully set the record straight!

PED TYPE #1 - ANABOLIC STEROIDS

AAS are a type of PED that requires no introduction. These muscle-building and strength-boosting synthetic androgens are what everyone thinks of when they hear the word "PED", "doping", "enhancement", etc...

Examples: Testosterone, Nandrolone, Trenbolone, Oxandrolone, Methenolone, etc...

PED TYPE #2 - SARMs

SARMs are just as much of a PED as Trenbolone or any other AAS. Sure, they are not as strong, but they essentially serve the same purpose and work through a very similar pathway - The main difference? SARMs are legal and more beginner-friendly.

Examples: Ostarine, RAD-140, LGD-4033, S-23, S-4, etc...

PED TYPE #3 - PEPTIDES

Not all peptides can be considered PEDs. For instance, BPC-157 is more of a healing agent than an actual PED, whereas IGF-1 LR3 is most definitely a PED.

For all intents and purposes, however, every peptide that can help a bodybuilder (whether that be by healing injuries, increasing muscle mass, burning fat, improving skin tone or improving sleep) can be classified as a PED. NOTE: Some Peptides can be classified as fat-burners or nootropics too!

Examples: CJC-1295, Ipamorelin, HGH, Insulin, IGF-1 LR3 or DES, BPC-157, TB-500, DSIP

PED TYPE #4 - FAT-BURNERS

Are compounds that ONLY burn fat without affecting performance or muscle growth in any way PEDs? Not necessarily, but they help bodybuilders look better and achieve their goals, so we can give them a pass. Plus many fat-burners DO have an impact on performance, focus and/or anabolism.

Examples: Clenbuterol, T3, Ephedrine, Frag 176-191, Yohimbine, etc...

PED TYPE #5 - NOOTROPICS

Sure, nootropics are not bodybuildings PEDs. But they enhance mental/cognitive performance, so they are absolutely a type of PED. A Nootropic is to a chess player what an AAS is to a bodybuilder. Furthermore, many nootropics can help bodybuilders and strength athletes focus and perform better at the gym too.

Examples: Piracetam, Noopept, Modafinil, Oxiracetam, Alpha-GPC, Semax, Selank, etc...

BONUS - OTHER PEDs

There are dozens of PEDs that cannot be classified in any of the aforementioned groups due to their unique mechanisms of action.
